Hand Drawn Animation

Using Traditional Animation

Sometimes the old ways are still the best.

Many animated videos nowadays rely upon computer generated images and software for their impact – but Dragonfly haven’t lost sight of the magic that traditional animation can offer. The hand drawn line is something much more personal than those rendered on a computer screen, and more unique. In spite of its flaws and quirks, or perhaps precisely because of them, it tantalises our minds like nothing else.

Traditional 2d animation can be fun, quirky and humorous – but it can also be sad, touching and poignant. We can show you how to explore the full spectrum of emotions, and do it in a way that no one else has done before.

Northampton Council got in touch and asked us to produce a very important video. Commissioned by the ‘Building Schools for the Future’ initiative, its aim was to inform primary school children about their move into secondary school.

The finished video is twenty minutes long and introduces all of the nine schools in Northampton. We involved the local school children in the creative process when we were making this video and we really believe that without their input the finished video wouldn’t have been nearly as effective. This was the first time children had ever been consulted in this way – and including them in such an important creative role felt good.

Conceptualisation.

Our guys are artists, they’ve based their whole careers on their ability to come up with creative ideas and make them real. If you need concept art, or you want to come up with a visual look for a product or design, let us imagine it with you.

Storyboarding

If you’re putting together a production, with us or on your own, being able to effectively storyboard your ideas is key to your success. Our artists have the skill to clearly and creatively show off your script and make sure everyone is working on the same page.

Character design

Some of the strongest campaigns are based around a great character, whether it’s Ronald McDonald or an Olympic mascot. If your company is thinking of creating a fictional spokesperson we can design it and help to make it one that people will love.
