A striking Christmas commercial campaign to promote the launch of the new Sony Playstation VR headset. Our team wanted to position the new product as so desirable, it even caught Santa’s attention.
Father Christmas happened upon the new Playstation VR Goggles whilst making his way through his annual Christmas Eve round. Santa could not resist giving the goggles a little try, but got so excited he woke the sleeping family upstairs.
We wanted to introduce Santa in our commercial as a bit grumpy, maybe he’s tired of the job and fed up of the same old annual routine.
Now Santa is an expert when it comes to must have gadgets, so when he spotted the new Playstation VR goggles, he simply could not resist trying them for size.
Dragonfly’s art department crafted the perfect set for this shoot. An entire day was dedicated to decorating the set, using traditional Christmas decorations and subtle use of festive colour
We had to create an authentic Christmas scene, so getting the right actor to play Santa was also essential, which around Christmas time, was harder to source than you’d think!
In the pursuit of a cinematic image, the lens is the most important element. We decided to use vintage Panavision C-series anamorphic lenses, which have a lovely organic feel that’s richer than the sterile look of modern day optics. These are lenses from 1968! True Hollywood classics such as Jaws, Star Wars, Indiana Jones, Forest Gump, and more modern films like The Revenant, and Fantastic Beasts were all shot using these lenses.
Dragonfly’s Founder Charlie started his career as a photographer, he then progressed into cinematography and developed a passion for moving image. Charlie’s entire professional life has been spent behind the lens.
THE IMPORTANCE OF colourgrading
Techniques to capture the cinematic footage delivers a ‘flat’ milky video. Colourgrading is then necessary to bring out the rich colours and warmth within the footage.
