SHARP
Case Study

This product was at the very cutting edge of medical research – it was brand new – and there was nothing else quite like it.
It was so new in fact, that at the time of production, the machine hadn’t even been built yet.

The Work

One of the many benefits of blending live action footage with animation is the ability to visually demonstrate ideas that are impossible to represent in real life. We were able to animate red blood cells rotating in a scientists hand, show annotations popping out of tablets and demonstrate key research findings through imagery.

Dragonfly's work with Sharp Life Sciences

Sharp Life Science are medical manufacturing company; their main focus is to deliver workflow automation solutions that revolutionise how life sciences research is carried out. They use their expertise in microelectronics and precision manufacturing to reimagine the modern laboratory, with the goal of providing a powerful solution to automate time-consuming tasks and empower researchers to tackle more complex scientific challenges.the People’s Postcode Lottery (PPL) for their support over the last 5 years, highlighting the impact that their support has had on the growth of the charity.

Dragonfly were honoured to be asked to make a video to showcase Sharp Life Science’s new product; the aQdrop, a revolutionary “lab-on-a-chip” solution for blood diagnostics in the life science industrial and medical sectors.
We’ve got a team of skilled 3D animators who specialise in product modelling – so we made a photorealistic digital 3D model of the product in our software. But we didn’t stop there – we wanted to add some context to the product, so we recorded live action footage with an actor on location at a real science lab. We were then able to overlay animations on top of the live action footage to demonstrate the ideas that underpin Sharp’s work.
